Edward studied music at Sussex University and the Royal College of Music and has enjoyed a varied career as a freelance trumpet player. Highlights have included playing in seven productions with the Royal Shakespeare Company (including sharing a stage with David Tennant in Richard II) and making a fleeting appearance as a court musician (standing behind Cate Blanchett) in the Oscar-winning film Elizabeth the Golden Age. He has played in many shows including the West End production Merrily We Roll Along, for which the band was nominated for an Olivier Award. A keen composer, editor and arranger, his music has been published by Boosey & Hawkes, Music Sales, Spartan Press and Warwick Music. He teaches at a number of schools, writes articles for Music Teacher Magazine and is an examiner for MTB. Over the last year, he has resumed his childhood passion for drawing and receives regular commissions.
What has creating art meant to you over the last year?
As a child, I loved drawing and making things, but gradually music took over and I spent all my energy pursuing this as a career. After a gap of around 35 years, lockdown gave me the time to rediscover my passion for drawing. It has been immensely therapeutic continuing to be creative in the absence of music and it has given me a deeper appreciation of the lines, shapes, textures and colours around us. I have been thrilled to receive regular commissions and have sold over 100 prints of my drawings.
