ChamberMusicBox combines leading international artists with imaginative and daring repertoire choices to present programmes which aim to combine the much-loved with unfamiliar gems\, all in a relaxed and inclusive setting.  \nRoger Vignoles is internationally recognised as one of today’s leading collaborative pianists\, having performed in the world’s greatest venues from Carnegie Hall to La Scala. He has partnered many of today’s leading singers such as Dame Kiri Te Kanawa\, Sir Thomas Allen and Anne Sofie von Otter as well as instrumentalists such as Joshua Bell\, Heinrich Schiff and Nobuko Imai.  \nThe recipient of two prestigious Diapason d’Or awards for his recording of Weinberg’s Violin Sonatas\, Yuri Kalnits was described by reviewers as ‘an interpreter of the highest order’. His career as a soloist\, chamber music and concertmaster has taken him to many of the world’s greatest concert halls such as Lincoln Centre\, Suntory Hall\, Barbican\, Southbank Centre and the Small Hall of Moscow Conservatoire. \nAlicja Smietana has performed with some of today’s leading musical personalities such as Yuri Bashmet\, Gidon Kremer\, Nigel Kennedy and Martha Argerich. A prize-winner at numerous competitions\, she has performed as a soloist with the Academy of St Martin in the Fields and at venues including the Berlin Philharmonie and the Royal Albert Hall. \nViolist Kay Stephen enjoys a distinguished career as a chamber musician. Former co-principal viola of Manchester Camerata\, she was a member of the Gildas Quartet for nearly ten years and has worked with ensembles including the Navarra\, Elias and Edinburgh Quartets and Manchester Collective. She is a regular guest principal with some of the UK’s leading orchestras.  \nAs a soloist and chamber musician\, cellist Julia Morneweg has performed around the UK and internationally at venues including the Purcell Room at London’s Southbank Centre\, St John’s Smith Square\, Zurich Tonhalle\, Martinu Hall Prague and Shanghai’s Daning Theatre. Click here to read more about the festival.\n			 \n			 \n				\n				\n			 \n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				 \nRaphael Wallfisch \nRaphael Wallfisch is one of the most celebrated cellists performing on the international stage. He was born in London into a family of distinguished musicians\, his mother the cellist Anita Lasker-Wallfisch and his father the pianist Peter Wallfisch. \nAt an early age\, Raphael was greatly inspired by hearing Zara Nelsova play\, and\, guided by a succession of fine teachers including Amaryllis Fleming\, Amadeo Baldovino and Derek Simpson\, it became apparent that the cello was to be his life’s work. While studying with the great Russian cellist Gregor Piatigorsky in California\, he was chosen to perform chamber music with Jascha Heifetz in the informal recitals that Piatigorsky held at his home. \nAt the age of twenty-four he won the Gaspar Cassadó International Cello Competition in Florence. Since then he has enjoyed a world-wide career playing with such orchestras as the London Symphony\, London Philharmonic\, Philharmonia\, BBC Symphony\, English Chamber Orchestra\, Hallé\, City of Birmingham Symphony\, Leipzig Gewandhaus\, Berlin Symphony\, Westdeutscher Rundfunk\, Los Angeles Philharmonic\, Indianapolis Symphony\, Warsaw Philharmonic\, Czech Philharmonic and many others. \nHe is regularly invited to play at major festivals such as the BBC Proms\, Edinburgh\, Aldeburgh\, Spoleto\, Prades\, Oslo and Schleswig Holstein. He is also frequently invited to be a jury member of international competitions such as the Rostropovich International Competition in Paris\, the Schoenfeld in China and the Enescu in Romania. \nTeaching is one of Raphael’s passions. He is in demand as a teacher all over the world and holds the position of professor of cello in Switzerland at the Zürich Hochschule der Kunst. \nRaphael has recorded nearly every major work for his instrument. His extensive discography on EMI\, Chandos\, Black Box\, ASV\, Naxos and Nimbus explores both the mainstream concerto repertoire and countless lesser-known works by Dohnanyi\, Respighi\, Barber\, Hindemith and Martinu\, as well as Richard Strauss\, Dvorak\, Kabalevsky and Khachaturian. He has recorded a wide range of British cello concertos\, including works by MacMillan\, Finzi\, Delius\, Bax\, Bliss\, Britten\, Moeran and Kenneth Leighton. For the Chandos Walton Edition he was privileged to record the composer’s Cello Concerto\, originally written for his master\, Piatigorsky. \nBritain’s leading composers have worked closely with Raphael\, many having written works especially for him. These include Sir Peter Maxwell Davies\, Kenneth Leighton\, James MacMillan\, John Metcalf\, Paul Patterson\, Robert Simpson\, Robert Saxton\, Roger Smalley\, Giles Swayne\, John Tavener and Adrian Williams. \nAlongside his solo career\, Raphael has a long-standing and distinguished duo with pianist John York. With a rich history of many international recital tours and numerous recordings\, the duo celebrated its 35th anniversary in 2017 and look forward to future collaboration. Raphael also greatly enjoys touring with his very successful piano trio – Trio Shaham Erez Wallfisch – which he and his colleagues Hagai Shaham (violin) and Arnon Erez (piano) founded in 2009. Click here to read more about the festival.\n			 \n			 \n				\n				\n			 \n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				 \nThe Misha Mullov-Abbado Group \nThe Misha Mullov-Abbado Group is made up of some of the finest\, multi-award-winning musicians in London\, and under Misha’s direction the group performs his original compositions and arrangements with a broad variety of influences. The band has performed at many venues and festivals all around the UK such as King’s Place\, the Barbican Centre\, the Elgar Room as part of the BBC Proms Lates series and has toured internationally around Europe and in Mexico. Having been signed to Edition Recordsthe group has released its debut album New Ansonia which has been included in “Best Jazz Albums 2015” of both The Telegraph and BBC Radio 3. The band released two more albums Cross-Platform Interchange (2017) and Dream Circus (2020)\, the latter produced by fellow Edition Records bass player and bandleader Jasper Høiby. \nThe band’s repertoire is influenced by a broad spectrum of music in the classical\, jazz and pop genres as well folk traditions from around the world\, particularly from South America. The music contains chorale-based and contemporary-classical styles that are influenced by Bach and Brahms right through to Stravinsky and Bartok and beyond\, and jazz musicians such as Bill Frisell. She is a member of the award-winning Galliard Ensemble and has released several CDs on the Deux-Elle label to great critical acclaim. \nDescribed by the Guardian as “knowing how to use her dramatic and vocal skills to the utmost”\, mezzo-soprano Emily Gray is in growing demand on the opera and concert stages alike. Her performances have included concert appearances at the Royal Albert Hall\, King’s Place and the Purcell Room as well as live broadcasts on BBC3’s “In Tune” programme. \nThe recipient of two prestigious Diapason d’Or awards for his recording of Weinberg’s Violin Sonatas\, Yuri Kalnits was described by reviewers as ‘an interpreter of the highest order’.
