I’m Daniel Fairley, I am a freelance percussionist, drummer and teacher based in Glasgow. I studied BMus percussion at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, where I developed a love of musical theatre and jazz, genres that I most often perform, alongside orchestral music which I continue to adore. I have always loved both music and art – my mum studied art, and my dad studied music. So I really owe my initial interest in these wonderful subjects to my parents. Towards the end of my school years, I struggled with the decision of either studying music or art, I chose music, but I am eternally grateful to have fallen back in love with making art this past year, due to not being able to work as a musician. I am so happy to be able to share some of my art here with you, I hope you enjoy!
What has creating art meant to you over the last year?
I have always loved making art and drawing, but having had the time this past year to really indulge in it and immerse myself again has been wonderful.
I am a huge fan of tattoos and collected many over the years. I have also always loved traditional tattoo designs from the early 1900s – 1960s, and at the beginning of 2021 decided to dedicate some time to learning how to paint traditional tattoo ‘flash’.
I’m amazed to say my flash paintings have picked up some interest in the tattoo community, and I am now pursuing my 2nd career in tattooing!
