I’m a professional viola player with 30 years of experience as an orchestral musician. My career has included permanent positions with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and Scottish Opera Orchestra as well as freelance work with most of the symphony and chamber orchestras in Manchester, London and Scotland. I’ve enjoyed touring the world as a musician including America, Asia and Europe and experiencing different cultures. As a lover of travel I’ve independently spent time in India and Vietnam. I’m also a practicing Bowen therapist here in Scotland. I’ve always made art and studied privately through attending life drawing and other classes in London and Glasgow. I live in Stirlingshire with my husband, 2 boys and 2 cats and continue to combine freelance playing with my therapy practice, art and portrait commissions.
What has creating art meant to you over the last year?
Having the extra time at home as a result of lockdown has been a very enriching and challenging experience for me. The sudden break in playing opportunities and therapy work created a space where I could spend more time on making art without the guilt of feeling that I should be busy working and earning. It’s been a sort of circuit breaker and allowed me to explore and discover more of who I am and who I could be as an artist. Time to develop a sense of confidence that this may be possible.
