Emanuel Abbühl

Emanuel Abbühl was Principal Oboist with  the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra and from 2006 for nearly a decade Principal Oboist with the London Symphony Orchestra. He is regularly invited as soloist, guest principal and as member of chamber music concerts all over the world.

He performed with the LSO, the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, the Mariinsky Orchestra, Budapest Festival Orchestra, Osaka Symphony, Singapore Symphony,  Concertgebouw Orchestra, Boston Symphony, the World Orchestra for Peace. Mariinski Orchestra, St.Pertersburg Philharmonic Orchestra under conductors such as Valery Gergiev, Sir Colin Davis, Witold Lutoslawski and others appearing at many important music festivals.

He was a teacher at the Rotterdams Conservatorium, Royal Academy of Music London and is now professor at the Musikakademie Basel and the Musikhochschule Mannheim.

He was futhermore visiting professor in numerous universities all over the world.

A review of one of the Strauss Oboe Concerto performances with the LSO and Valery Gergiev described him as “a master of his instrument and musician par excellence”.

His most recent recording is the Oboe Quartet of Peter Maxwell Davies with the Hebridies Ensemble was published in 2017.
